LULAV & ETROG
The Torah instructs us to take four species in hand to celebrate Sukkot – willow, palm, myrtle and citron. The first three are bound together and are collectively called a Lulav. The citron, or Etrog, is a sweet-smelling citrus fruit grown in Israel. The Lulav and Etrog are waved in the synagogue and in the sukkah. Lulav and Etrog sets are available for purchase HERE or by calling the Temple office.

Hoshana Rabbah/Sh'mini Atzeret

Hoshana Rabba, the seventh day of Sukkot, is a semi-holiday in its own right. Join us to learn more about this unique day and the special ritual in which the branches of the willow (the aravot) are struck upon the ground. This is a symbolic attempt to rid ourselves of any remaining sins (the leaves representing these transgressions).

Join us on October 23, 2024 at 7:00 AM for our Hoshana Rabbah services where we will be beating the willows.

Friday, October 25, 2024

0 - before the age of Bar/Bat Mitzvah - Kol HaNe’a’rim - All the Children - We invite all children to receive an aliyah while standing underneath an oversized tallit. Following this aliyah, children are invited to join Shoshana Jacob for an up close Simhat Torah experience.

After the age of Bar/Bat Mitzvah - 12th Grade - Siyumei Hatorah - Completers of the Torah - We invite all students who have already celebrated their bar or bat mitzvah to help us complete the reading of the Torah.

83 years old and older: Mathilei Hatorah - Commencers of the Torah - We invite all those who have celebrated reaching the age of their “second bar or bat mitzvah” to help us read the Torah from the beginning. Our tradition teaches that a full life is 70 years. So, 70 years plus another 13 adds up to 83.

Congregational Group Aliyot - Everyone is invited to be part of a group aliyah to the Torah.
